Emergency teachers filling contract positions require instant information on English text in order to successfully prepare lesson plans and provide information to students in the classroom. In most cases ongoing teachers utilise the holiday period to read the set texts and prepare assessment material.

Casual relief teachers can be employed up to a month; therefore they are expected to fulfil the duties of the staff member on leave. In the majority of cases specific instructions are provided to continue with a set subject, issue or theme irrelevant of the number of set texts and length of the text. The substitute teacher will be expected to resume teaching duties whilst in the process of reading and evaluating the material, apart from setting lesson plans to cater for mixed ability groups within the classroom.

Eta has provided referral sites commonly utilised to access instant reference notes.
