WA‘s selective school on top

Perth Modern School, School Curriculum and Standards Authority, Allan Blagaich, WACE

Perth Modern School is Western Australia’s top academic school for 2016.  Only two state schools made it to the top 10.  Despite this, it has been revealed that less students are attaining their Year 12 Certificate of Education.  Statistics reveal there has been a drop from 96.4 per cent in 2015 to 91.9 per cent in 2016.

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) chief executive Allan Blagaich attributes this to changes in the certificate.
“By requiring students to demonstrate a minimum number of C grades in Year 12, meeting minimum literacy and numeracy standards, making sure that you can’t average grades, the percentage of students who have met the WACE has fallen slightly,” he said.
