The Minister for Education, Bronwyn Pike officially opened the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) last month. The Southbank facility cost twenty million dollars catering for two hundred students selected for specific music and dance programs. The structure was designed by William Boag Architects with a major design influence reflecting New York, Boston, London and Paris specialist schools. The Victorian government in conjunction with Australian Ballet and theatrical consultants all focused on a collaborative approach in establishing a first class educational environment. The school provides an alternative learning environment by challenging traditional formats and offers new and creative surroundings where students can further their practical and theoretical skills in a nurturing environment where the arts and academic pursuits can co-exist.
